The Merion Concert Band announces a conductor search
The Merion Concert Band announces its search for a music director to conduct and lead a large symphonic wind band. Founded as the Merion Musical Society in 1977, the band has a membership of over 50 adult musicians and performs free concerts in Philadelphia on the Main Line. Members come from all walks of life as well as many different levels of musical accomplishment. The band rehearses weekly on Thursday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., September through June, in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania. It presents three formal concerts each season as well as a number of outdoor performances during the summer.
The Merion Concert Band seeks candidates that have prior conducting experience, educational preparation and the skills to handle the responsibilities of this volunteer position. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering and encouraging both the musical and community aspects of the band. The conductor/music director must be willing to dedicate the time and effort to select appropriate music and efficiently allocate rehearsal time to adequately prepare the band for its performances.
